A message from our BiH Program Manager
Dear Jericho Family,
We are, without a doubt, in uncharted territory as the entire world battles the Coronavirus outbreak. From the beginning, we knew that our students' education would be impacted as schools all over the world try to adjust to the everchanging climate. Our scholars' situations vary, but we decided to continue sending full monthly scholarship amounts even though many students traveled home to continue learning virtually.
We were overwhelmed with the response.
Our monthly scholarships, which were meant to sustain one individual's living and food expenses, are now in many cases the only income for an entire family now.
Bosnia and Herzegovina still faces economic and political turmoil that prevents any effective and sustainable aid from reaching the people in crisis. Without unemployment benefits, grants, federal assistance, or even homeless shelters, most are left completely alone wondering about survival.
This is where we come in.
We know that many of our supporters all over the world have been hit with economic hardship during this time and our thoughts and prayers are with you. Some, however, may find themselves still in a place to be able to help others financially. If you are able, we would ask that you join us in raising funds for our COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund to provide essential resources to those we support and their families. Any amount helps! Join our effort and donate below:
HOW WILL THE FUNDS BE USED
The Jericho Family: First, we want to take care of our students' by providing an additional *$200 to help take care of their families.
Food Banks: Without federal assistance, many people are in dire need of food. Each large city only has one food bank that serves a single meal a day. This is simply not enough to cover the current need. We would like to provide additional resources to a reputable food bank so that more people can get fed.
Medical Supplies: We are in communication with a few contacts to address specific medical needs in the country. One of our alumni students is a practicing medical doctor, her hospital is in desperate need of a sterilizer costing $400. We would also like to provide resources for some women in the country to sew masks for high-risk people groups.
Total fundraising goal: $10,000
*We are dedicated to the responsible use of our funds. These costs are estimates and will only be given to reputable partners with accountability in place that the funds are spent accordingly. Any funds raised beyond the emergent need will be used for our education program.
We have asked both our Kalamazoo and BiH staff to work remotely from home for the foreseeable future.
We have postponed (until further notice) our Spring Leadership Summit.
We have created a Facebook group for students and staff to engage, connect, and encourage one another during the quarantine.
Our BiH staff member personally contacts the students for updates and to check-in on their families.
We are creating flexible refund policies for our Summer fundraisers allowing for full refunds in the event that they are canceled.
We are praying for YOU and those we serve, knowing that this outbreak has far-reaching effects for us all.
