One Million Landmines Still Unaccounted For
Jericho Volunteers walked the land in 2006, where the “Miracles Prosthetic Clinic” would be built. In 2008, Jericho Volunteers walked through the newly completed “Miracles Prosthetic Clinic”. The Bosnian government does not provide prosthetics for anyone who lost limbs in land mine explosions occurring in the last decade. Bosnia still has the most land mines per sq mile of any other country. Jericho has partnered with the Miracles Clinic to provide prosthetics limbs and hope.
On a recent trip to the orphanage in Zenica, workers showed visitors from the Jericho Foundation the medicine cabinet containing first-aid and over the counter medications that are needed everyday. We're happy to say that the supplies donated to the Jericho Foundation have been very useful and appreciated.
There is a need to replenish the cabinet now. Health care sounds like an insurmountable and complex issue, but by stocking one medicine cabinet, so many will be easily helped.
Miracles is a British-based charity with a worldwide reputation. Born of a graveside hug between a Muslim and a Christian at the height of the Bosnian war, with a mission to alleviate situations of dire and multiple distress, promote positive thinking, provide a listening ear, and practical support for those with nowhere else to turn.
With the horrifying statistics proving that Bosnia is one of the worst land-mined countries in the world, in 2000 Miracles launched an appeal to build its own specialist prosthesis centre where landmine victims can receive the ongoing treatment they so desperately need.
The Miracles Centre is now a reality. Limbs are now being made. Miracles is working alongside other international and local agencies (including The Jericho Foundation) in order to bring about the best treatment possible for amputees and the best possible overall use of the new facility. But to develop this major project into the centre of excellence for which it was built, the Miracles Centre needs continuing funding.
