War stripped Bosnia of a skilled, educated workforce. Jericho strives to rebuild the lost intellectual capital of Bosnia by providing college scholarships. The scholarship program affords both the education and the training needed for these young adults to become integral parts in Bosnia's rebuilding process. Without the Jericho Foundation scholarships, college was out of the question. Many more students are in need of similar support. With additional funding we will be able to address these needs.
When the Jericho Foundation announced our first college scholar, Melisa in 2003, she wrote these words: "Once upon a time there was a little girl. She was no princess, but she lived her own fairy tale. Her life was about her family, her sister, school, her friends, happiness never ended. But all that had to change. A day came when the words like bomb, killing, war, death became her reality. She had to leave the place she used to call home; she had to leave her friends, never to see them again. She had to grow up over night. Her fairy tale ended.
"It's been ten years since then. The little girl turned into an eighteen years old" me. During those ten years I didn't believe in fairy tales, I lived in refugee camps, I was afraid to live. Today I am ready to move on, to set new goals and to afford myself to dream. I am turning towards my future."
